Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in this part of the island of Montreal called the West Island. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of diverse communities. People who have never heard of it often think it is a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently mentioned, but her brief visit to the West Island was not. Brugel grew to be a woman of a certain age in Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. The first goal she had was to dance however a rapid growth rate led to her growing beyond the dancers she was with. In an article from The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I surpassed my male counterpart and stopped dancing, I quit. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. For Brugel, it was the encouragement by her drama instructor at high school that led her in the direction she wanted. A teacher suggested that she try out for a school production. She auditioned and eventually got the leading role in Anne of Green Gables. It led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. For the past twenty years, Brugel's roles on TV and the big screen have been varied. The role of Rita from the award winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most notable. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor during the season 1 of the series, and not seen much.
